Information Technologies in Mining

On 5 February, MLIT Scientific Leader, Doctor of Technical Sciences Vladimir Korenkov delivered a talk and moderated the session “Information Technologies in Mining” within the International Scientific Symposium “Miner’s Week-2025”. The event is held on 3-7 February at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) MISIS in Moscow.

Jointly with Vladimir Korenkov, the session “Information Technologies in Mining” was moderated by Doctor of Technical Sciences Igor Temkin, Head of the Department of Automated Control Systems at NUST MISIS.

The session was devoted to artificial intelligence methods in the mining industry, using computer vision and neural networks as examples. There were considered the issues of modeling processes and enhancing the operation efficiency of electrical equipment on the basis of digital technologies, as well as the experience of developing, integrating and using specialized software and mining-geological information systems.

In his talk, Vladimir Korenkov presented the JINR MLIT scientific program, dwelling upon the work conducted in the Laboratory in such directions as mathematical modeling, the development of new mathematical methods, algebraic and quantum computing, applied research. The speaker separately focused on computing for physical experiments, in particular for megascience projects. The architecture and capabilities of the JINR Multifunctional Information and Computing Complex were demonstrated. Vladimir Korenkov also spoke about the creation of the JINR Digital EcoSystem.

Within the Symposium, MLIT Scientific Leader met with the MISIS management to discuss the possibilities of developing cooperation with both MLIT and JINR. As the next practical step, a visit by the MISIS management delegation to JINR is planned for the middle of next month.

The International Scientific Symposium “Miner’s Week” is the largest annual scientific and practical event in the mining industry in Russia, which this year has brought together over 1,500 participants and more than 300 participating organizations. The number of submitted reports exceeded 500.

For over 30 years, the Symposium has united representatives of business, government, scientific and educational communities from many countries worldwide. At the Miner’s Week, modern problems and innovations in the mining industry are discussed, and leading developments and investigations by representatives of mining schools in Russia and other countries are presented.
