Plenipotentiary Representative of Mongolia at JINR got acquainted with the MLIT scientific program

On 27 March 2025, Suren Davaa, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of Mongolia at JINR, Senior Officer of the Secretariat of the Nuclear Energy Commission of the Government of Mongolia, visited the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies. He was accompanied by Byambajav Munkhbat, Director of the Nuclear Physics Research Center of the National University of Mongolia, and Gurjav Ganbold, Head of the Mongolian National Group, JINR BLTP Lead Researcher. The visit was organized within the participation of the Mongolian delegation in a session of the JINR Committee of Plenipotentiaries.

At the MLIT Directorate, the guests were welcomed by MLIT Director.Sergei Shmatov, MLIT Scientific Leader Vladimir Korenkov, and MLIT Deputy Director Chuluunbaatar Ochbadrakh.

The fruitful cooperation and close scientific contacts supported by scientific organizations of Mongolia and MLIT JINR were highlighted at the meeting. Sergei Shmatov emphasized that for JINR as a whole and for each Laboratory of the Institute individually, JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov set the goal of making additional efforts to enhance the scientific infrastructure in the JINR Member States.

The parties considered the information presented by Chuluunbaatar Ochbadrakh on the operation and modernization of the Computational Center launched with the assistance of MLIT JINR at the Institute of Mathematics and Digital Technology (IMDT) of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS) in Ulaanbaatar in 2019. It was pointed out that five Mongolian scientists, as JINR associated personnel, performed scientific tasks using the capacities of the Computational Center at IMDT MAS. Suren Davaa said that discussions on the possibility of launching a supercomputer at the MAS were currently underway. In this regard, having voiced proposals for the development of the Computational Center at IMDT MAS, Vladimir Korenkov also underlined that a large-scale project to create a supercomputer required combining the efforts of JINR with the efforts of relevant ministries and departments of Mongolia. As noted at the meeting, the JINR Information Center, the organization of which is already underway, can become a point of consolidation of contacts for conducting the designated directions of cooperation.

The experience of integrating and organizing the functioning of various computing resources was presented by the MLIT Directorate during the excursion of the Mongolian delegation to the JINR Multifunctional Information and Computing Complex and the “Govorun” supercomputer.
