Congratulations to Victor Victorovich Galaktionov!

May 10, 2023 marks the 80th anniversary of the birth of Honorary JINR employee, leading researcher of the Scientific and Technical Department of Software and Information Support of the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Victor Victorovich Galaktionov.

He began his scientific activity at JINR in 1967 after graduating from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Odessa State University. The main focus of his work was the research and development of software for distributed computing systems of JINR. At the initial stage of these works, Viktor Viktorovich took an active part in the creation of a library of general and special purpose programs for the BESM-6 and CDC-1604 computers, headed a group responsible for connecting small computers of the EU-1010 type (terminal hub) and TRA to the BESM-6 base computer. He created mathematical software for the "fortran stations" of the LNF and LHPh in the JINR measuring and computing complex. In 1983, he became the head of the sector for the development and maintenance of the mathematical support of the EU computer, having done a lot for the development and support of the EU computer operating system, as well as means of connecting terminal devices to the BESM-6, CDC-6500 and EU computers via JINET JINR local network: these works were awarded the 1st prize of JINR. Developments and application software packages made personally by V.V. Galaktionov and co-authored with colleagues, found recognition and were implemented in dozens of research organizations within the country and abroad, which contributed to the establishment of the authority of the Dubna school of programming.

Victor Victorovich was actively engaged in the research and implementation of new Internet technologies for new generation distributed computer systems with RMI, CORBA and Web Services, which were used in further work with his participation in the GRID. V.V. Galaktionov is an active participant in the international EGEE program (Enabling Grids for E-sciencE) in the data processing software project GRID for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Geneva and the Russian segment of the grid – RDIG (Russian Data Intensive Grid). He has prepared software packages (testsuites) for certification of various components of WLCG (security systems, task management and data) for different systems of the intermediate layer (middleware) Alien, gLite and EMI. He currently serves as the Grid Security Infrastructure (GSI) administrator for the JINR Grid Computing Subsystem.

Under the leadership of V.V. Galaktionov, three PhD theses were defended.
V.V. Galaktionov is the author and co-author of more than 95 scientific papers and innovation proposals, participated in many international conferences, earned recognition, respect and gratitude of all who work with him or use the results of his work.

For conscientious work Victor Victorovich was awarded the departmental badge of distinction in the work "Veteran of Nuclear Energy and Industry", an Honorary diploma, a Certificate of Merit and a Letter of Thanks from JINR.

Dear Victor Victorovich! We sincerely congratulate you on your anniversary, wish you health, success in work, well-being, mutual understanding in family life! Let your loved ones please you with their attention and care, let your interest in classical music, bard songs and photography not disappear! Everyone who visits the Laboratory sees your numerous historical photographs of the past years on the presentation panels displayed on the 3rd floor of LIT. All the best to you!
