Modern information technologies in biology and medicine

On November 22–24, 2023, a workshop “Modern information technologies in biology and medicine” was held online with technical support from LIT. The meeting was organized by the laboratories of LIT and LRB JINR together with the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences and the Serbian Institute of Histology and Embryology within the framework of the Serbia-JINR Cooperation Program.

Specialists from three institutes in Serbia and six scientific centers in Russia made their presentations at the meeting. The topics of the reports were extensive and included work on biomedical research and the implementation of modern information technologies for solving applied problems, modeling problems in radiation biology and biophysics of macromolecules, new microscopy methods, bioinformatics problems and methods of automated data processing of behavioral experiments, fluorescence microscopy, histology, electrophysiology and tomography.

The final day of the meeting was dedicated to a training course conducted by the HybriLIT Heterogeneous Computing Team (HIT) based on the HybriLIT ML/DL/HPC ecosystem on the basics of computer vision using Python libraries. As part of the lesson, a practical problem was solved using data from the “Open Field” behavioral test in experiments conducted by a group of LRB physiologists.

The event took place with the support of the Directorate of the Vinča Institute, LIT and LRB JINR.
