MLIT Directorate participates in JINR Days in Uzbekistan

On 22 April 2025, the Days of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Uzbekistan started in Tashkent. MLIT Director Sergei Shmatov and his Deputy Nikolay Voytishin participated in the solemn opening of the event at the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan (AS RUz). JINR Days in Uzbekistan are dedicated to the 70th anniversary of JINR. The event is organized to strengthen partnership between JINR and the Republic of Uzbekistan and is intended to bring the cooperation to a qualitatively new level.

On the first day of the event, MLIT leaders held meetings and discussions with representatives of Romanovsky Institute of Mathematics and IT Park University, where they considered the use of MLIT’s IT infrastructure and joint developments in the field of genetics. Particular attention was paid to the organization of joint educational programs with IT Park University, Dubna University and the Dubna branch of Moscow State University.

On 23 April, Sergei Shmatov presented MLIT’s scientific program at a meeting with representatives of Arifov Institute of Ion-Plasma and Laser Technologies, the Physicotechnical Institute, and the Institute of Material Sciences. Joint participation in megascience projects at the NICA and LHC colliders, in particular, in the CMS experiment, was discussed. The importance of providing specialists from Uzbekistan with access to the JINR computing infrastructure was highlighted. Nikolay Voytishin visited the Institute of Genetics and Plant Experimental Biology, where the possibilities of applying artificial intelligence methods in agriculture in Uzbekistan were considered. The working program of the day was completed by a large-scale meeting at the Institute of Nuclear Physics with the participation of the JINR delegation headed by the Institute’s Directorate.

On 24 April, Sergei Shmatov and Nikolay Voytishin visited Ulugh Beg Astronomical Institute.

                    

On 22 April, within JINR Days in Uzbekistan, a general agreement on AS RUz–JINR scientific and technical partnership, which, among other directions, comprises information technologies, was signed. A working group will be formed for each direction. The interaction will embrace the exchange of information and the organization of joint research, conferences and seminars, visits and internships. On the same day, the participants of the event laid flowers at the grave of Academician Bekhzod Yuldashev, the AS RUz President for many years, the Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of Uzbekistan at JINR, a member of the Scientific Council and a good friend of JINR. On 22–24 April, in Tashkent and Samarkand, the JINR delegation is holding a series of official meetings with representatives of academic institutes, universities, relevant ministries and departments of Uzbekistan. The Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan have organized exhibitions dedicated to JINR, its scientific laboratories and key research areas.
