MLIT at opening of JINR IC at SFedU On 6 June, a JINR Information Center was opened at the Southern Federal University (SFedU) in Rostov-on-Don. This is the 13th center in the international network of JINR Information Centers. The day before, in anticipation of the opening ceremony, meetings with JINR scientists and specialists were organized at the SFedU Faculty of Physics. The JINR representatives delivered lectures, held round tables and educational sessions, where they spoke about JINR’s activity, its contribution to Russian and world science, various areas of scientific research. Maxim Zuev, a researcher of the MLIT Sector of Heterogeneous Computing and Quantum Information Science, presented the capabilities and scientific program of the JINR Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies. Maxim Zuev’s talk focused on the features and state-of-the-art solutions in the field of IT infrastructure required for the efficient operation of megascience facilities. MLIT’s work in this area, namely, for the experiments at the NICA accelerator complex at JINR and at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN was presented. The issues of collecting, storing, processing and analyzing large data volumes (Big Data), as well as distributed computing methods and high-performance computing systems employed in experimental physics, were considered. In addition, Maxim Zuev told the audience about the Laboratory’s structure and its technical support, gave an overview of projects that MLIT is working on. Special attention was paid to student training programs. Within the lecture series at SFedU, which was opened by JINR UC Director Dmitry Kamanin with an overview on the Joint Institute, colleagues from VBLHEP, FLNP, and LRB also delivered talks. The JINR Information Center at SFedU was opened with the support of the Rostov Region Government and Acting Governor Yury Slyusar. The opening of the Information Center was attended by First Deputy Governor of the Rostov Region for Education and Culture Igor Guskov, JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov, and SFedU Acting Rector Inna Shevchenko.
