Software of Mongolian IMDT’s computing complex updated in collaboration with MLIT On 26 July – 9 August 2025, in cooperation with the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies software at the computing center of the Institute of Mathematics and Digital Technology ( IMDT), Ulaanbaatar, was updated. The system administration work was performed by MLIT 2nd category software engineer Mikhail Matveev jointly with IMDT specialists. During the visit, the transition from the main OS Centos 8 to Alma9 was completed, and several new technologies to protect against the loss or corruption of system and user data were introduced. In addition, the operating systems of eight computing and two system servers, as well as two servers for other projects, were updated. The logic for creating and storing backup copies was changed, the encryption of the storage and backup copies and the replication of system virtual machines were added. At the same time, the collection of data on the load on server hardware and virtual machines was reconfigured for further analytics. Access to graphic software was configured using VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) technology. The large-scale update of the IMDT computing complex software allowed for the timely implementation of the necessary reconfiguration due to changes that affected the Centos operating system. For the global transition, routine actions were carried out, they enabled the introduction of several technologies to enhance the fault tolerance of server hardware.
