Round table with representatives of Egyptian scientific organizations On 13 October, a round table was held between representatives of JINR, the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT), and Egyptian scientific organizations as part of the Quantum Computing and Machine Learning (QCML) workshop in Cairo. The meeting focused on the implementation of the quantum computing development strategy in Egypt. The participants exchanged information on the status of research in this field and discussed ways to establish cooperation and opportunities for collaboration. JINR participants in the event included MLIT Director Sergei Shmatov, MLIT Scientific Leader Vladimir Korenkov, MLIT Scientific Secretary Olga Derenovskaia, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of Georgia at JINR, Head of the MLIT Algebraic and Quantum Computing Sector Arsen Khvedelidze, UC Director Dmitry Kamanin, and Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department Elena Badawi. ASRT was represented by Supervisor of Specialized Research Councils Ahmed Gabr and Coordinator of Bilateral International Agreements Mona Shuman. The parties exchanged information on significant research results in the field of quantum computing in Egypt, JINR, Russia, and partner organizations of the meeting participants. The Egyptian delegation was introduced to the principles and organization of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in its administrative, scientific, innovation, and educational aspects. It was highlighted that, as an international intergovernmental organization, JINR served as an effective platform for discussions, establishing international scientific contacts, and enlarging areas of cooperation. It can also serve as a conduit for establishing contacts with industrial companies. The parties discussed possible mechanisms for launching joint scientific projects. The need to identify contact persons for further dialogue and collaboration was indicated. The JINR representatives underlined that the Information Center at ASRT was a constant source of information about JINR and a convenient entry point. The parties agreed that jointly organized events of both scientific and educational nature could become an effective avenue for strengthening cooperation. As a practical step to enhance cooperation, the Egyptian representatives proposed discussing with the ASRT management the possibility of participation in the “JINR Expertise for Member States and Partner Countries” (JEMS) training program for leaders and specialists of Egyptian scientific organizations.
