New prospects for cooperation with Armenia

On 27 March 2026, during a visit to JINR to participate in the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Institute's establishment, Artur Movsisyan, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of the Republic of Armenia at JINR, Deputy Chairman of the Higher Education and Science Committee of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, accompanied by Deputy Secretary General of this Committee Karen Gharibyan, visited the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies.

The Plenipotentiary Representative of Armenia at JINR was welcomed by MLIT Director Sergei Shmatov and MLIT Scientific Leader Vladimir Korenkov. At the meeting, the parties discussed the current state of cooperation and opportunities for strengthening scientific ties.

The meeting was also attended by Edik Ayryan, Head of the Armenian National Group at JINR, MLIT Assistant Director for International Cooperation and Human Resources, Margarit Kirakosyan, Deputy Head of the Armenian National Group, MLIT second category software engineer, and Vazgen Sargsyan, a senior researcher at the Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics.

The discussion focused on the potential for a new area of collaboration based on a supercomputer commissioned earlier this year at Yerevan State University (YSU). The YSU supercomputer is primarily aimed at artificial intelligence, machine learning, and Big Data processing tasks. The platform is open to research in physics, chemistry, biology, and materials science, simultaneously serving as an educational base for master’s and postgraduate students. The parties discussed the prospects for joint research projects using the YSU supercomputer, as well as the issues of training highly qualified personnel using MLIT’s expertise and scientific infrastructure.

On 26 March, at a solemn evening marking JINR’s 70th anniversary, Artur Movsisyan presented gold medals from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia to JINR Director, RAS Academician Grigory Trubnikov and Scientific Leader of the Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions, RAS Academician Yuri Oganessian in recognition of their outstanding achievements. In turn, Artur Movsisyan was awarded a medal in honor of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.
