Modeling of interaction processes of heavy ions with metals based on a combination of the thermal spike and molecular dynamics methods

(based on the PhD thesis)
Abstract:

The methods and results of computer modeling of thermal and destructive processes occurring in metals irradiated with heavy ions in the energy range of 100-800 MeV are presented. The numerical approach is based on the thermal spike method, modified to account for phase transitions, as well as on the combined application of this method and molecular dynamics. The developed computer programs are implemented using parallel programming technologies to speed up the computations. Based on this, the characteristics and sizes of damaged areas in the irradiated material are studied depending on the model parameters.
