MLIT and NOSU at new stage of cooperation On 15 May 2026, the management of Khetagurov North Ossetian State University (NOSU), represented by Rector Alan Ogoev and Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science Ruslan Kulaev, visited the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies. JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov took part in a meeting dedicated to identifying specific pathways to strengthen cooperation with NOSU. The MLIT Directorate was represented by Director Sergei Shmatov, Scientific Leader Vladimir Korenkov and his Deputy Tatiana Strizh. The discussion was attended by Director of the JINR University Center Dmitry Kamanin, MPD Computing Coordinator Oleg Rogachevsky, and Vice-Rector of Dubna University Andrey Nechaevskiy. MLIT staff members Sergey Belov, Sergey Semashko, Svetlana Lebedeva, Olga Vlasova, and Yuri Trofimov also participated in the meeting.. During the discussion, the parties agreed that the current cooperation between NOSU and JINR, particularly with MLIT, had great potential for expansion. Alan Ogoev expressed interest in developing collaboration in the field of information technology with the active involvement of NOSU youth, highlighting the unique opportunity for young scientists to become part of JINR’s advanced scientific projects. The parties agreed that involving the NOSU teaching staff in projects within this cooperation would be mutually beneficial and effective. As Tatiana Strizh pointed out, a teacher, as a project leader on behalf of the university, is able to maintain overall control over the project’s objective, which will allow the project to continue even when students leave it after defending their theses. Sergei Shmatov underlined that such teaching staff involvement would contribute not only to the continuity of work in the direction of projects’ objectives, but also to the professional growth of the teachers themselves, the enrichment of their skills, and the expansion of their scientific horizons. The JINR representatives voiced a number of promising areas for establishing cooperation. Head of the VBLHEP Sector Oleg Rogachevsky spoke about the status of the MPD project, in which data taking on cosmic radiation is expected in July. The facility’s main detectors have been assembled, and commissioning is planned for the autumn. The wide range of large-scale tasks within the project and the shortage of personnel required to carry them out were noted. The organization of the database structure and the processing of physics data and simulation tasks are of particular interest to both NOSU and the MPD project. The parties discussed a number of digitalization tasks. Head of the MLIT Sector Sergey Belov spoke about the development of the JINR Digital EcoSystem (DES), its capabilities, the services available within the DES, and the ecosystem’s future directions. The topic was continued by MLIT Lead Programmer Sergey Semashko, who presented MLIT’s ongoing work with geographic information systems (GIS). In the case of the JINR DES, GIS is supplemented with the management of buildings and premises in conjunction with personnel information. During the discussion, special attention was paid to the application of spatial systems. MLIT Software Engineer Yuri Trofimov enlarged upon the creation of neural network algorithms for GIS, including adapting GIS for mobile devices using artificial intelligence methods. The participants of the meeting expressed great interest in the information presented on MLIT developments in the area of digital assistants for both document management and scientific data collection. Potential for joint work in radiomedicine, radiobiology, and applied research was also discussed. As MLIT Scientific Leader Vladimir Korenkov emphasized, NOSU, as JINR’s long-standing partner, is a leader in digital transformation and IT training of personnel. Vladimir Korenkov also pointed out that new approaches to organizing scientific groups to work in JINR projects’ directions could yield truly fruitful results for both organizations. Summing up the meeting, JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov proposed, in addition to the directions presented, to consider the possibility of searching for new promising topics that synthesize the information technologies in which MLIT has expertise, which will serve to sustainably enlarge the scope of cooperation and actively engage young people in science. At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to create a team of leaders from NOSU for the selected areas of cooperation with JINR and arrange their visit to JINR in the near future for further practical steps to organize joint work.
