Swiss Ambassador to Russia visited MLIT On 26 May 2026, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Switzerland to the Russian Federation Jürg Burri, accompanied by Swiss Embassy Science, Technology, and Education Officer Andrey Melnikov, visited the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies during a visit to JINR. The main objective of the Ambassador’s visit to the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research was to get acquainted with JINR’s scientific infrastructure and research. At MLIT, Jürg Burri and Andrey Melnikov were welcomed by representatives of the Laboratory’s Directorate, namely, Director Sergei Shmatov, Scientific Leader Vladimir Korenkov, and Deputy Director Nikolay Voytishin. VBLHEP Deputy Director, Head of the NA64 experiment at JINR Dmitry Peshekhonov and Head of the VBLHEP Scientific and Experimental Department of Physics at CMS, Head of the CMS experiment at JINR Vladimir Karzhavin also took part in the meeting. Issues of cooperation between JINR and CERN in the field of distributed computing, detector construction, and personnel training, as well as the Institute’s participation in the experiments at the Large Hadron Collider, were discussed at the meeting. Jürg Burri and Andrey Melnikov were presented with information on MLIT’s research activities. The guests also visited the Multifunctional Information and Computing Complex, learned about its capabilities and the application of the Govorun supercomputer. Later that day, MLIT Director Sergei Shmatov participated in a meeting between the diplomats and the Institute’s Directorate.
