Workload prediction for DIRAC distributed computing infrastructure

There is a new project of MLIT employee Igor Pelevanyuk within the framework of the 4th Wave of the INTEREST online scientific program, which is organized by the JINR University Centre and will be held from May 24 to July 2, 2021.
DIRAC Interware is a platform for the integration of different computing resources into a unified system. In JINR it is used to run various jobs related to Monte-Carlo generation and data reconstruction. So far almost a million jobs have been successfully executed which consumed 500 years of wall-time. With monitoring data available it is possible to predict the duration of jobs running on the integrated infrastructure. It would allow to plan load more precisely.
This project involves diving into the terminology of High-Throughput Computing and the practical use of collected data. Please, include a link to your Github(GitLab, BitBucket) account if you already have some projects completed in Python.

Speaker: F. Ahmadov
Title: «Measurements of WH and ZH production in the H→b anti-b decay channel in pp collisions at 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector»
Abstract::
Measurements of the Standard Model Higgs boson decaying into a b anti-b pair and produced in association with a W or Z boson decaying into leptons, using proton-proton collision data collected between 2015 and 2018 by the ATLAS detector, will be presented. The measurements use collisions produced by the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of √s=13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 1/fb. The production of a Higgs boson in association with a W or Z boson is established with observed (expected) significances of 4.0 (4.1) and 5.3 (5.1) standard deviations, respectively. Cross-sections of associated production of a Higgs boson decaying into bottom quark pairs with an electroweak gauge boson, W or... read more...

On 15 January 2021, Viktor Borisovich Zlokazov, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, a leading researcher of the Scientific and Technical Department of Software and Information Support of the Laboratory of Information Technologies, celebrates his 80th birthday.
After graduating from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University, V.B. Zlokazov started to work at JINR in 1969 being involved in the creation of computer systems of receiving, accumulating and processing spectrometric information for JINR’s experimental facilities.
Later V.B. Zlokazov dealt with the problems of automating physical experiments at the IBR-30 (2) and U-200 (400) facilities, a number of setups at the HMI Institute in Berlin and at the FRM-II reactor of the Technical University of Munich, as well as with the development and use of methods of applied mathematics to solving a wide range of problems related to the analysis of data obtained within these experiments. The created methods (some of them were pioneering) were further developed on the basis of more advanced computer systems using modern programming technologies. Software complexes were created for solving the major tasks of analyzing the spectra of the widest class, namely, one- and multidimensional neutron and neutron-diffraction, gamma, alpha and... read more...
