Abstract:
A network of ten semiconductor Timepix detectors with GaAs:Cr sensors was installed in the ATLAS cavern at CERN's LHC during the shutdown periods 2015–2016 and 2016–2017 in the framework of a cooperation between ATLAS and the Medipix2 Collaboration. The purpose was to augment the existing system of measuring and characterising the radiation environment in the ATLAS cavern that is based on ATLAS-TPX devices with pixelated silicon sensors. The detectors were in continuous operation during 13 TeV proton-proton collisions in 2017–2018. Data were recorded during proton-proton bunch... read more...

Workload prediction for DIRAC distributed computing infrastructure

There is a new project of MLIT employee Igor Pelevanyuk within the framework of the 4th Wave of the INTEREST online scientific program, which is organized by the JINR University Centre and will be held from May 24 to July 2, 2021.
DIRAC Interware is a platform for the integration of different computing resources into a unified system. In JINR it is used to run various jobs related to Monte-Carlo generation and data reconstruction. So far almost a million jobs have been successfully executed which consumed 500 years of wall-time. With monitoring data available it is possible to predict the duration of jobs running on the integrated infrastructure. It would allow to plan load more precisely.
This project involves diving into the terminology of High-Throughput Computing and the practical use of collected data. Please, include a link to your Github(GitLab, BitBucket) account if you already have some projects completed in Python.

9th International GRID'2021 Conference

The 9th International Conference "Distributed Computing and Grid Technologies in Science and Education" (GRID'2021) will be held in the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies (MLIT) of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) on 5 – 9 July 2021 in a mixed format.
The forthcoming conference will be the ninth one organized by the JINR MLIT starting from 2004 and is dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the foundation of the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies at JINR.
Since the conference GRID 2004, distributed computing and grid technologies have gone far beyond the academic interest. At present, these technologies allow federated computing centers around the world to provide resources to highly distributed user communities. Modern technologies require the development of high-performance and high-throughput computing. The coverage of these activities encompasses not only various fields of natural sciences, but also business and industry. Over the last years, the implemented distributed computing model has enabled the solution of a wide range of tasks, involving the processing of an enormous amount of data... read more...

Dear colleagues!
Please find details related to the institutional seminar on results obtained by the JINR team at the ATLAS at the LHC on 17 March at 11:00.
Due to the measures imposed by the JINR Directorate for preventing the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19 infection the seminar will be held via Zoom only.
Speaker: F. Ahmadov
Title: «Measurements of WH and ZH production in the H→b anti-b decay channel in pp collisions at 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector»
Abstract::
Measurements of the Standard Model Higgs boson decaying into a b anti-b pair and produced in association with a W or Z boson decaying into leptons, using proton-proton collision data collected between 2015 and 2018 by the ATLAS detector, will be presented. The measurements use collisions produced by the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of √s=13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 1/fb. The production of a Higgs boson in association with a W or Z boson is established with observed (expected) significances of 4.0 (4.1) and 5.3 (5.1) standard deviations, respectively. Cross-sections of associated production of a Higgs boson decaying into bottom quark pairs with an electroweak gauge boson, W or... read more...
