Results of the session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries in Minsk
On November 15, a session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries of the Governments of the JINR Member States was held in the capital of the Republic of Belarus under the chairmanship of Arsen Khvedelidze, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of Georgia at JINR. The CPG members got acquainted with the main scientific results of the Institute, its activities in the field of personnel training and development of social infrastructure. Following the meeting, the Institute's budget for 2025 was approved and new members of the Scientific Council were elected. The merits of three JINR employees were recognized with state awards of the Russian Federation and Belarus.

Registration for the NICA-2024 workshop is now open
The International Workshop on physics performance studies at NICA Accelerator Complex (NICA 2024), organized by JINR jointly with National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, will be held online on November 25–27, 2024.
The International Workshop aims to promote scientific exchange and development of novel ideas on physics performance studies for BM@N and MPD experiments at NICA facility. Related theoretical and experimental activities in physics of relativistic heavy-ion collisions will also be discussed

Selection of participants for 2025 START Winter Session
The JINR University Centre announces the end of accepting applications from students and postgraduates for participation in the Winter session of the student program START - 2025 (STudent Advanced Research Training) and invites research project managers to get acquainted with the applicants' profiles on the website students.jinr.ru by November 29 of this year and make their choice through the specified website.
Upon completion of the selection process, the organizing committee of the program will contact the laboratories with a request to approve the list of selected students and indicate the sources from which the program participants will be paid per diem. The selected students who received financial support from the laboratory will be invited to Dubna for 6-8 weeks from mid-February to the end of June 2025.

MMCP’2024: summarized results
After a five-year break, the International Conference "Mathematical Modeling and Computational Physics, 2024" (MMCP-2024) has resumed its work. The eleventh conference took place at Yerevan State University (YSU, Yerevan, Armenia) on 21-25 October and was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of Academician Alexei Norairovich Sisakyan (14 October 1944 – 1 May 2010), an outstanding scientist in the field of elementary particle physics, theoretical and mathematical physics, director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (2006–2010). MMCP–2024 Conference Starts in Yerevan city
The International Conference "Mathematical Modeling and Computational Physics, 2024" (MMCP-2024), started its work in Yerevan State University. The conference is jointly organized by the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, the A.I. Alikhanian National Science Laboratory, the Yerevan State University, and the Institute for Informatics and Automation Problems (IIAP) of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia.
The conference was attended by over 150 scientists and specialists from 18 countries and a large number of Russian research centers and universities. JINR was represented by the laboratories of MLIT, BLTP, VBLHEP and LRB.

ASTAKHOV Anatoly Yakovlevich 21.09.1936 – 15.10.2024
On October 15, 2024, Anatoly Yakovlevich Astakhov, a leading engineer at the M.G. Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies (MLIT), Candidate of Technical Sciences, died.
Astakhov A.Ya. was born on September 21, 1936 in the city of Nevinnomysk, Stavropol Territory.
Astakhov A.Ya. began his career at JINR in 1960 at LTP, after graduating from MEPhI, and moved to LCTA (MLIT) in 1967 as a senior engineer. In 1974, he was appointed to the position of head of the group. From 1985 to 1994, Astakhov A.Ya. - Scientific secretary of LCTA (MLIT), since 1995 he has been a senior researcher, since 2011 he has worked as a leading engineer.
All scientific activity of Astakhov A.Ya. is connected with research, development and creation of measuring and control systems on line with a computer. He participated in the creation of the first JINR data processing system based on the M-20 and Minsk-22 computers, and was engaged in the creation of electronic equipment for camera image processing devices. About Autumn School of Information Technologies 2024
On 7-11 October, the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies (MLIT) hosted the Autumn School of Information Technologies of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR). The event represents the first stage in a series of JINR Schools of Information Technologies, the main goal of which is to involve young specialists in solving tasks that face JINR using high-performance and distributed computing, data analysis methods and algorithms, state-of-the-art information technologies. Over 50 students from 11 Russian universities, including those ones where JINR Information Centers operate, participated in the Autumn School.
At the School, outstanding scientists delivered lectures on general topics to the students. MLIT Scientific Leader V.V. Korenkov presented to the audience a talk on the JINR IT infrastructure and the main projects implemented by MLIT. Vladimir Vasilievich paid particular attention to the history of the IT development, spoke in detail about the creation and development of distributed systems, as well as methods and technologies for processing data in heterogeneous computing environments. SERDYUKOVA Svetlana Ivanovna 26.07.1939 – 14.10.2024
On October 14, 2024, after a long illness, Svetlana Ivanovna Serdyukova, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, a leading researcher at the M.G. Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies, died.
Serdyukova S.I. was born on July 26, 1939 in Luga, Leningrad region. Almost 60 years of Serdyukova's life were inextricably linked with JINR, where she began working in 1965 after completing her postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Lomonosov Moscow State University.
She was a highly qualified specialist in the field of computational mathematics, well known in our country and abroad. She obtained fundamental results on asymptotic methods for studying the stability of difference boundary value problems. Under the guidance of Serdyukova S.I., calculations related to the numerical modeling of physical processes were carried out.

The Autumn IT School is the first stage in the series of Schools on Information Technologies at JINR. At the School, students will get acquainted with the JINR program and, if interested, will have the opportunity to choose topics for their final qualifying papers.
All School participants must have laptops to participate in trainings.
JINR at the Anniversary of the Mongolian Institute of Mathematics and Digital Technology
A delegation from the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research visited a number of institutes of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS) and the Nuclear Physics Research Center of the Mongolian National University on September 19–22. During discussions with the heads of institutes and members of the Academy of Sciences, a number of agreements were reached on intensifying interaction between the research teams of JINR and Mongolia. The parties agreed to develop the future information center of the Joint Institute in Mongolia and organize events within the framework of the JINR Days in Mongolia in 2025.
JINR representatives took part in an international conference dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Mathematics and Digital Technology of the MAS. Participants of the Business Incubator of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization visited JINR.
From September 24 to 27, the final part of the International Youth Acceleration Program "Business Incubator of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO)» was held in Moscow and the Moscow Region. The last two days of the event, held in the Dubna Special Economic Zone, were devoted to familiarizing the participants with the scientific and industrial enterprises of the science city.
As part of the first day of the program in Dubna, Stepan Shirkov, Assistant Chief Engineer of JINR, gave a report "Proton Therapy. JINR Experience and Proposals". China-JINR IT workshop
On 15-19 September, a China-JINR workshop on the organization and development of data processing and analysis methods in future high-energy physics (HEP) experiments was held on the shore of Lake Baikal in the Listvyanka village.
The purpose of the seminar was to discuss the issues of cooperation between JINR and research organizations of China in the field of computing and software for the implementation of physics research programs within the experiments at operating and planned electron-positron and hadron colliders, namely, BEPCII (Beijing Electron-Positron Collider, IHEP CAS, Beijing), NICA (JINR), CEPC (Circular Electron Positron Collider, IHEP CAS, Beijing), STCF (Super Tau-Charm Factory, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, China), as well as within the JUNO (Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory, Jiangmen, China) experiment to study the properties of neutrinos. Delegation of Uzbekistan visited JINR
On September 21, representatives of the leadership of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan (AS RUz) visited the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research: Acting President of the AS RUz Sirojiddin Mirzaev and Vice President of the Academy Gairat Bakhadirov.
Receiving the delegation, vice director of JINR Sergey Dmitriev expressed condolences on behalf of the Institute's Directorate in connection with the death of the President of the AS RUz, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Uzbekistan at JINR, member of the Scientific Council of the Institute Bekhzod Yuldashev. "This is a loss not only for you, but also for us: Bekhzod Sadykovich was a great friend of the Joint Institute, and for us this is a great loss," said Sergey Dmitriev.

The 136th session of the Scientific Council of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research was held in Dubna on September 12–13. The session participants heard a report by JINR Director, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Grigory Trubnikov, dedicated to the results of scientific work and achievements of the Institute in 2024. The report presented the decisions of the session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries ( CP) of the Governments of the JINR Member States, the progress of the main projects of the Topical Plan for 2024, the results of the Institute's work to strengthen international cooperation, as well as the results of JINR's activities in the field of training scientific personnel.

The first year master's students started their classes at the MSU branch office
On September 9, a ceremonial event dedicated to the beginning of the new academic year was held in the academic building of the Dubna Branch of Moscow State University (MSU). Students and guests of the event learned about the history of the Dubna branch of MSU and got acquainted with the scientific infrastructure of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. In 2024, for the first time in its recent history, the Branch accepted master's students for the first year.
The solemn event was opened by Alexander Olshevsky, Deputy Director of the MSU Dubna Branch. Congratulating students and faculty on the start of the academic year, he emphasized the importance of scientific and educational cooperation between MSU and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.

On numerical methods for solving partial differential equations
In 2024, the Springer Publishing Company issued the digital edition of the monograph entitled “High-order finite difference and finite element methods for solving some partial differential equations” by scientists of the Laboratory of Information Technologies and Laboratory of Theoretical Physics at JINR, Mongolian University of Science and Technology, and Institute of Mathematics and Digital Technology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences. The monograph was released as part of the book series titled “Synthesis Lectures on Engineering, Science, and Technology” and based on the results of collaborative research.
The monograph is devoted to the construction of the high-order finite difference and finite element methods for numerical solving multidimensional boundary-value problems (BVPs) for different partial differential equations, in particular, linear Helmholtz and wave equations, nonlinear Burgers’ equations, and elliptic (Schrödinger) equation.

About new developments of Newton-type iterations for solving nonlinear problems
As part of the Mathematical Engineering Book Series, Springer published the monograph entitled “New developments of Newton-type iterations for solving nonlinear problems” by Ochbadrakh Chuluunbaatar, Deputy Director of the Laboratory of Information Technologies at JINR, Academician of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS), and Tugal Zhanlav, JINR Honorary Doctor, MAS Academician. The authors analyse the intricacies of Newton-type methods for nonlinear equations, discussing their convergence, accelerations, and extensions.
The three-part monograph explores higher-order iterations for nonlinear equations and their systems, their applications in linear algebra, and some nonlinear problems of theoretical physics. Emphasising the pivotal role of iteration parameters in shaping convergence and expanding the domain, the authors draw from their extensive collaborative research to systematically compile and substantiate these findings.
CRIC Information System
Researchers from the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (INP SB RAS, Novosibirsk) with the participation of JINR employees have developed the CRIC (Computing Resource Information Catalog) information system, which is one of the key components for building a distributed system for processing experimental data from the SPD Experiment at the NICA Accelerator Complex. The information system allows integrating computing centres to process large amounts of statistics of experimental data..
The INP SB RAS researchers started developing the CRIC Information System in 2016 for the experiments of the Large Hadron Collide (LHC) at CERN. II All-Russian School-Seminar for students and young scientists - 2024
The II All-Russian NCPhM School-seminar for students and young scientists "Center for the Study of Supercomputer Architectures" was held from August 26 to 29, 2024 in Sarov with the support of Rosatom State Corporation, institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and ITMF RFNC-VNIIEF as part of the Decade of Science and Technology.
At the school-seminar, students and young scientists learned about current research in the field of development, creation and application of supercomputer technologies from leading scientists and specialists in Russia; and were also able to present the results of their own scientific work.
On the first day of the School-Seminar, 26.08.2024, the Scientific director of the JINR LIT Korenkov V.V. presented a report on the topic: "Methods and technologies of data processing in heterogeneous computing environments", which can be found at the link.
Call for applications for 2025 START Winter Session opens
The START (STudent Advanced Research Training) Programme invites students and postgraduates to join research conducted at JINR supervised by leading scientists and engineers. Applications for the 2025 Winter Session are accepted at start.jinr.ru until 31 October 2024.
One of the features of the Programme is competitive selection of participants carried out by project supervisors based on the application forms submitted. The Programme is aimed at students having finished the 3rd year of the Bachelor’s course, Master’s students, and PhD students of the 1st year of study. Selected participants will be able to come to JINR for 6-8 weeks from February until June 2025.

Description of BM@N Spectrometer at NICA Accelerator Complex
The BM@N (Baryonic Matter at Nuclotron) Collaboration of the NICA Megascience Project prepared a technical description of the BM@N Spectrometer including all its subsystems in an article published in the Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research – section A. The authors of the work are affiliated with the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and scientific and educational centres in Bulgaria, China, Israel, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Uzbekistan.

M.G. Meshcheryakov: Memories of the Creation of the Synchrocyclotron
December 14, 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the launch of the world's largest synchrocyclotron, the first base installation of the Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems (DLNP) of JINR. This day is considered the day of the foundation of the Laboratory.
We are publishing a link to material from the website of the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems with the memoirs of Mikhail Grigorievich Mneshcheryakov, who first came to Dubna in 1947 as the scientific director of the design and construction of the synchrocyclotron. He was only 36 years old then.

From 19 to 21 July, the 28th Summer Scientific School of Young Scientists and Specialists titled Lipnya-2024 take place at the Lipnya Tourist Resort, named after the island in the Ivankovsky reservoir where the event takes place. It brought together the youth of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Tensor PJSC, and the Sarov branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University. The Association of Young Scientists and Specialists (AYSS) of JINR organized the scientific event.
Right after the participants introduced themselves to each other, the leading experts shared their knowledge and experience through a series of informative lectures. Educational cooperation deepening between JINR and Primorsky Krai
On 29 July, Chief of Staff of the Governor of Primorsky Krai and the Government of Primorsky Krai Dilyara Malikova visited the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. A meeting took place at the Institute’s Directorate to discuss issues of developing cooperation in training highly qualified personnel.
JINR Scientific Leader, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Victor Matveev hosted the meeting. Among participants were JINR University Centre Director Dmitry Kamanin and Head of a MLIT Sector of heterogeneous computing and quantum informatics, Head of the JINR Information Centre at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) Oksana Streltsova.
The parties exchanged views on further expanding partnership between Primorsky Krai and the Joint Institute in a wide range of fields, including professional development of school teachers and opportunities for schoolchildren and students.

Amirkhanov Ilkizar Valievich 06.01.1943 – 20.07.2024
On July 20, 2024, Ilkizar Valievich Amirkhanov, candidate of physico-mathematical sciences, who worked for many years in the Scientific Division of Computational Physics of the M.G. Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies, passed away.
I.V. Amirkhanov was born on January 6, 1943 in the Tashkent city. In 1965 he graduated from the Faculty of Physics of the Tashkent State University. He worked at JINR since 1967, first in the LTP and then in the LСTA (MLIT). In 1969 he successfully defended his PhD thesis. For more than 25 years he was the head of the sector No. 3 of methods for solving mathematical physics problems of the Division of Computational Physics of the MLIT.
At the initial stage of his work at JINR, I.V.Amirkhanov was engaged in research in the field of the theory of multichannel nuclear reactions, development of methods for solving the Fadeev equations in coordinate representation and the inverse problem of quantum mechanics. Together with the staff of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Moscow State University, he carried out important studies of the dynamics of charged particles in inhomogeneous magnetic fields.

By decree of the President of Mongolia dated 6 June 2024, Scientific Leader of the MLIT Vladimir Korenkov was awarded the Friendship Medal for his contribution to the creation of a high-performance computing centre and the training of engineering and technical personnel at the Institute of Mathematics and Digital Technology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences.
The Friendship Medal is the highest state award of Mongolia, presented to the citizens of other countries for their great contribution to promoting Mongolia’s scientific, technological, social, and economic development and strengthening cooperation between Mongolia and the recipient’s country. It was established by decree of the President of the Mongolian People’s Republic on 20 April 1967.

Verification of simulation program for creating digital twins of DDPCs
We are glad to bring for your attention the article "Verification of the simulation program for creating digital twins of distributed data acquisition, storage, and processing centres", published in the "International Journal of Open Information Technologies".
Using the example of the computing infrastructure of the BM@N Experiment, employees of the Laboratory of Information Technologies and the Laboratory of High Energy Physics at JINR verified results of the simulation program, which is part of the software complex for creating digital twins of distributed data acquisition, storage, and processing centres. This software can be used in the design, development, and operational control of computing systems for modern megascience projects.

On 19-21 July 2024, the JINR Tourist Base “Lipnya” hosted the XXVIII Summer Scientific School organized by the Association of Young Scientists and Specialists of JINR (JINR AYSS). The event was attended by 55 representatives of scientific youth aged up to 35 years inclusive from laboratories and subdivisions of the Joint Institute, as well as young scientists and specialists from PJSC “Tensor” and from Branch of the Lomonosov Moscow State University (Sarov).
The three-day program of the event included lectures and round tables, as well as a master class and sports and cultural events. The school participants learned a lot of interesting things about scientific, technical and historical aspects of the Institute's life, about technical and engineering tasks solved at JINR and at other enterprises of Dubna. About the publication of articles and reviews in the new JINR scientific journal
Starting in the autumn of 2024, JINR plans to publish a new electronic multidisciplinary scientific journal "Natural Science Review". It is an open access electronic journal published by the Institute itself, with content in the form of original scientific articles and reviews. The directions of publications will be determined by the topics of fundamental and applied scientific research at JINR. Articles will be published after they are accepted for publication.
According to JINR ORDER No. 559, specialists of MLIT should create a journal website in accordance with the developed terms of reference by 01.11.2024 and provide further technical support together with the JINR CSSO (Chief Scientific Secretary Office).

Application of the Hopfield Network to SPD Track Reconstruction
We offer to your attention a preprint «Application of the Hopfield Network to SPD Track Reconstruction» (P11-2024-5) issued by the JINR Publishing Department. The authors: Bureš M., Kadochnikov I.S., Kovalenko A.V., Ososkov G.A.
One of the key stages of processing data from particle physics experiments is the reconstruction of trajectories (tracks) of interacting particles from measurement data. In the SPD experiment planned at the NICA collider, a special difficulty will be caused by the extremely high frequency of interactions (3 MHz), which leads to overlapping of events during the data acquisition in the time-slice mode, as well as by the strong contamination of data by fake measurements due to the specifics of the track detectors. This makes track reconstruction (tracking) algorithms very complicated.
In this study, methods based on the Hopfield neural network for tracking simulated events of the SPD experiment are investigated. JINR and the NRU HSE discussed the possibilities of cooperation within the framework of the NICA project and personnel training
On June 14, the first JINR – HSE workshop was held at JINR within the framework of the cooperation agreement signed in March 2024 between the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and the National Research University Higher School of Economics.
The meeting included sections on topics defining the main areas of cooperation: participation in experiments of the NICA, megascience project, interaction in the field of theoretical and mathematical physics, information technology and personnel training.

Candidate of Technical Sciences, MLIT JINR Senior Researcher Alexander Uzhinsky will deliver his report “Creation of neural network models for image classification on a small dataset using the example of plant disease classification”.
Convolutional neural networks have been used for image classification for a rather long time. Previously, it took tens of thousands of images per class to train a network. It is now possible to obtain a model that generalises quite well even with only a few images per class.
The seminar will provide general concepts of neural networks, convolutional neural networks, methods for preparing data and training models, approaches to machine learning on a small dataset, and present the results of research carried out at MLIT JINR related to the classification of plant diseases.

Meeting between JINR and the Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory (YerPhI)
Last week, the second meeting between JINR and the Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory (AANL, YerPhI) took place in Armenia. This meeting was a continuation of the one held a month earlier in Dubna.
The first meeting focused on extensive discussions regarding the initiative proposed within the framework of the agreement signed on March 20, 2024, between JINR and AANL, to establish a joint laboratory with JINR based at AANL (YerPhI), aimed at creating a technological and scientific platform within the Republic of Armenia. This platform would have access to cutting-edge technologies and products used in the setup units for fundamental, applied research, and analytical equipment.
The second meeting aimed not only to further discuss expanding cooperation between JINR and scientific centers in Armenia in the fields of fundamental science, information technology, innovation, and education, but also to define specific thematic directions for the activities of the proposed laboratory.

On May 17, an international seminar “NICA Days - 2024” organized by the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and KazNRTU, ( г. Алматы) was held at the Kazakh National Research Technical K. I. Satpayev University in a mixed format. The participants reviewed the status of the NICA megasciences project and discussed the physical program of the experimental facilities of the accelerator complex: BM@N, MPD, SPD and ARIADNA. Kazymov Andrey Igorevich 09.05.1970 – 01.05.2024
On May 1, 2024, the leading programmer of the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies, Andrey Igorevich Kazymov, passed away.
Kazymov A.I. was born on May 09, 1970 in the city of Tommot, Aldan region, Yakut Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.
From 1987 to 1993 he studied and graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. In 1992, he completed an internship at JINR.
From 1993 to 1996 he worked at LCTA JINR as an electronics engineer. In 1994 he was seconded to CERN to work with ORACLE databases, where he established himself as a skillful and competent specialist. Upon returning to Russia, Andrei Igorevich worked in various organizations in Moscow, and in 2011 he returned to work at LIT JINR.
From 2011 to 2013 he worked as a programmer under contract agreements with LIT JINR on the topic ATLAS. Since 2013, he was hired under a contract for the position of leading programmer in the distributed computing systems sector of the Division of Software and Information Support. Andrey Igorevich took part in the creation and support of the TDAQ ATLAS operational monitoring system, created PBEAST plugins for various versions of the GRAFANA platform. On 15-16 April, the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies (MLIT) hosted the Spring School of Information Technologies of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR). JINR - HSE Agreement
On March 29, JINR signed an agreement between the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and the National Research University Higher School of Economics. The document was signed by JINR Director Grigory Trubnikov and HSE Rector Nikita Anisimov. The agreement defines the main areas of cooperation between organizations, including participation in the main experiments of the NICA mega-science project, interaction in the field of theoretical physics and information technology, and training.
Within the framework of the agreement signed by the parties, it is planned to conduct joint scientific research on the basis of a large research infrastructure of JINR, including the NICA complex, the Higher School of Economics participation in the scientific program of experimental collaborations MPD, SPD and BM@N. It is a pleasure to invite you to participate in the International Workshop on Mathematical Problems in Quantum Information Technologies (MPQIT-2024) in the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies (MLIT) of Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) to be held on 27-28 May, 2024, both in a person and online.
The main focus of MPQIT-2024 is on mathematical aspects of diverse problems in fundamental and applied quantum technologies such as
The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers from JINR member-states and around the world working on mathematical problems of quantum information science to exchange their experience and research results. Scientists from our Laboratory, Arsen Khvedelidze and Astghik Torosyan, published a paper "On the hierarchy of classicality and symmetry of quantum states" in the "Notes of Scientific Seminars of the St.Petersburg Department of the Steklov Mathematical Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences" journal. The work was performed in cooperation with A. Razmadze Mathematical Institute of Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Institute of Quantum Physics and Engineering Technologies of Georgian Technical University, and A. I. Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory.
Abstract: The interrelation between classicality/quantumness and symmetry of states is discussed within the phase-space formulation of finite-dimensional quantum systems. KRUGLOVA Lyudmila Yurievna 30.08.1957 – 16.02.2024
In February 2024, Lyudmila Kruglova, a software engineer of the 1st category of the Division of Software and Information Support at the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies, died. Kruglova L.Yu. was born on August 30, 1957 in the city of Alma-Ata (Kazakhstan).
Lyudmila Yurievna's 43 years of life were inextricably linked with JINR, where she began working in August 1980 after graduating from the Physics Department of Lomonosov Moscow State University. From the first days of her work at NIOREMO LCTA, she studied the operating system of the EU-1040 computer installed in the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems, thereby preparing for the use in LCTA since 1981 of computers of the unified series EU – EU-1060, EU-1061 to solve problems of automation of physical experiment.
Since 1994, Kruglova L.Yu. has been a member of the collaboration of the DIRAC experiment at the PS accelerator at CERN. She made a great contribution to the development of methods for determining the parameters of the drift camera system of the DIRAC installation, she developed and implemented tracking software in the micro-drift camera system. Variational formalism for the Klein-Gordon oscillon
A Senior Researcher of the JINR MLIT Igor Barashenkov and a lecturer at the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics of the University of Cape Town Nora Alexeeva presented a new variational method employing amplitude and width as collective coordinates of the Klein-Gordon oscillon. Earlier methods resulted in dynamical systems with unstable periodic orbits that blow up when perturbed. An essential feature of the proposed trial function is the inclusion of the third collective variable: correction for the nonuniform phase growth. In addition to determining the parameters of the oscillon, the authors’ approach detects the onset of its instability. The work was published in 21 November 2023 in the Physical Review D journal.

SHIGAEV Vladlen Nikolaevich 05.02.1935 – 06.03.2024
On March 06, 2024, Vladlen Nikolaevich Shigaev, a former employee of the M.G.Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, passed away. Shigaev V.N. was born on February 5, 1935 in the city of Rzhev, Tver region.
Almost 60 years of V.N. Shigaev's life were inextricably linked with JINR, where he began working in 1963 after graduating from Lomonosov Moscow State University. From the first days of his work, he was engaged in solving the problem of automating a physical experiment. He made the largest contribution to the creation of a unique mathematical software for the HPD scanning automaton, which formed the basis for his PhD thesis, which was successfully defended in 1979.
Shigaev V.N.'s further work was related to the use of artificial neural network (ANN) methodology in calorimetry problems in particle physics experiments. In particular, as part of the STV2004 test experiment, V.N.Shigaev developed an INS procedure for the reconstruction of energy losses, which became an integral part of a new method - a hybrid scheme for the reconstruction of pion energy, created jointly with the physicists of the nuclear power plant for the ATLAS experiment.

Students and teachers of MSU at MLIT
On 28 February 2024, the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies hosted 3-5-year students and teachers of the Department of Automated Systems for Computing Complexes of the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics of Lomonosov Moscow State University, who were accompanied by Senior Researcher of the Laboratory of Computing Complexes V.V. Balashov and Head of the Department R.L. Smelyansky.
MLIT Scientific Leader V.V. Korenkov told the guests about the major directions of the Laboratory’s activities and modern IT technologies for solving scientific and applied tasks, introduced them to ongoing events (conferences, student schools) and expressed hope for closer cooperation and interaction with MSU in the future. M.I. Zuev (researcher, MLIT) described in detail one of the components of the JINR MLIT Multifunctional Information and Computing Complex (MICC), namely, the “Govorun” supercomputer, spoke about its architecture and the tasks solved on it.

The following JINR annual prizes for the best papers of 2023 in the fields of scientific research, methodology, research and technology, and applied research were awarded by the decision of the 135th session of the JINR Scientific Council that was held on 15–16 February 2024.
The work “Development of a software and algorithmic complex for the reconstruction, identification and selection of high-energy muons in the CMS experiment at the LHC” was awarded the Second Prize in the nomination "Physics Instruments and Methods".

In Nizhny Novgorod, on September 25–27, 2023, the Sixth International Conference “History of Computing in the Russia, former Soviet Union and Council for Mutual Economic Assistance countries (SORUCOM 2023)” was held, the first conferences of which were successfully held in 2006 in (Petrozavodsk), in 2011 (Veliky Novgorod), 2014 (Kazan), 2017 (Zelenograd), 2020 (Moscow). Over the years, the creators of the first computers and programming systems, students and colleagues of outstanding scientists and founders of the computer industry in our country spoke at them.
