Numerical results of thermal processes occurring in materials under the action of femtosecond laser pulses
We offer to your attention a preprint « Numerical results of thermal processes occurring in materials under the action of femtosecond laser pulses » (P11-2023-52) issued by the JINR Publishing Department. The authors: Ilkizar Amirkhanov, Ibrokhim Sarkhadov, Zafar Tukhliev
In recent years, lasers have been created that generate ultrashort light pulses. Currently, there is an increasing need to create and improve reliable physical models capable of describing various processes in matter. At the same time, computer modeling now occupies one of the main places in the study of such problems.
The paper proposes a modification of the thermal spike model based on a system of two coupled hyperbolic heat conduction equations for an electron gas and a crystal lattice for modelling thermal processes occurring in materials under the action of femtosecond laser pulses. The action of the laser in the electron gas is taken into account through the source function.
The study has been performed at the Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies and submitted to the... read more...

Simulation of laser ablation of materials within the thermal spike model
We offer to your attention a preprint « Simulation of laser ablation of materials within the thermal spike model » (P11-2023-51) issued by the JINR Publishing Department. The authors: Ilkizar Amirkhanov et al.
In previous works, numerical simulations of laser ablation of materials arising under the action of ultrashort laser pulses in semi-bounded samples and samples of finite thickness were carried out within the framework of the thermal conductivity equation.
In this paper, a similar simulation is carried out for semi-bounded samples in the framework of a two-temperature thermal spike model, which consists of two interrelated heat conduction equations for an electron gas and a crystal lattice. The laser action is taken into account through the source functions in the equation of thermal conductivity of the electron gas, setting the coordinate and time dependences of the laser source. A comparative analysis of the obtained results of the two models is made.

On finite-element modeling of large-scale magnetisation problems with combined magnetic vector and scalar potentials
We offer to your attention a preprint “On finite-element modeling of large-scale magnetisation problems with combined magnetic vector and scalar potentials” (E11-2023-37) issued by the JINR Publishing Department. The author is Alexander Chervyakov. (MLIT JINR)
A numerical performance of finite-element modeling based on the combination of magnetic vector and total scalar potentials is assessed against the vector potential formulation for two magnetisation problems, the Helmholtz coil and the dipole magnet. The potentials are applied to conducting and nonconducting parts of the problem domain and coupled together across their common interfacing boundary. Thin cuts are constructed in the current-free regions to ensure the consistency of the formulation. Simulation results show a substantial reduction in the computational cost provided by the mixed formulation compared to its vector counterpart for a similar accuracy of both methods.

Software for building digital twins of distributed data centers
Dear Colleagues! The employees of our Laboratory have developed and registered a software package for creating digital twins (DC) of distributed centers for collecting, storing and processing data (RDPC). The uniqueness of this program is that the DCs created with its help effectively monitor the work of the RDC in terms of data flows and related tasks. According to the developers, the created software is proposed to be used primarily in the design and operation of computing infrastructures for physical experiments.
The digital twin of the data center is a virtual copy of the data center that shows how it works in any possible scenario. The software package for the creation of a digital document, developed at LIT, has no analogues yet. “At present, there are programs in the world to create digital twins, but they all reflect the data center from the point of view of engineering infrastructure: how electricity works, how air flows, and so on,” says Daria Pryakhina, a researcher at LIT JINR. - "We have developed a software package that will create twins that reproduce the processes of receiving, collecting, transmitting, storing data and processing it. Such twins will be especially useful when... read more...

Polynomial approximation of the magnetic field for track detector
We offer to your attention a preprint “Polynomial approximation of the magnetic field for track detector” (P1-2023-20) issued by the JINR Publishing Department. The authors: Rikhvitsky V. S. (MLIT JINR), Belyaev A. V. (VBLHEP JINR) .
The magnetic field of the 1-meter hydrogen bubble chamber at LHE JINR was measured in 1971. In the programs for the geometric reconstruction of physical events, these data were used to calculate the field at arbitrary points in space using linear interpolation methods.
It is convenient to approximate the measured magnetic field by polynomials, which makes it possible to exploit the connections imposed by the magnetic field equations. The method of least squares is used to construct basic polynomials that satisfy the Laplace equation. The proposed method for constructing the basis was implemented and used in a number of programs for processing experimental data obtained on track detectors.
The presented method can be applied not only to bubble chambers, where the... read more...

Online platform for plant disease detection
In 2017, a team of researchers of the Laboratory of Information Technologies JINR won a grant of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR) to develop a comprehensive system for detecting plant diseases based on images and text descriptions.
The team has designed a platform pdd.jinr.ru that they continue developing up to the present day. It has several user entry points and implements a collection of models. Processing a user request, the algorithm first uses a general model for diseases and pests. Afterwards, the neural network determines the type of the plant. Provided that there is a model for this crop, a user will also get a personal prediction in addition to the general one. “Responding to a user request, the platform displays the three closest classes to the uploaded image. Thus, in most cases, it makes it possible to correctly recognise the disease and get treatment suggestions,” a MLIT JINR leading programmer, a co-author of the research Alexander Uzhinskiy informed.
At present, the pdd.jinr.ru platform includes models for 19 agricultural and ornamental crops: barberry, grape, cherry, blueberry, strawberry, corn, cucumber, pepper, wheat, currant, tomato,... read more...

Search for New Charged Particle in Mass Interval 2–100 MeV - preprint
The regularity of the e, μ, τ lepton mass distribution is proposed, indicating the possibility of the existence of a new state (“heavy” electron) with a mass of ∼ 8 MeV. To search for it, ∼ 55 thousand stereo photos from the 2-m propane bubble chamber were scanned. The chamber is exposed in a 10-GeV proton beam at the JINR Synchrophasotron. The events of the γ-quantum conversion into a pair of charged particles are analyzed. 47 anomalous events were found in which one particle of the pair stops in the volume of the chamber, has an increased track density at the end of the range and, upon identification, detects a mass of ∼ 8 MeV. The average value of the mass of the new particle is (8.6 ± 3.0) MeV.
The investigation has been performed at the Veksler and Baldin Laboratory of High Energy Physics, JINR.... read more...
